ESPN “SCHEDULE ALERT”

Working alongside NBA Senior Writer Baxter Holmes and Dr. Cheri Mah, a Physician scientist specialized in sleep and performance in elite athletes, ESPN released its 3rd iteration of “Schedule Alert” games during the 2017-18 season.

The purpose of Schedule Alert was to identify games in which travel and fatigue will weigh disproportionately on one of the two teams and analyze how this fatigue affects not only the outcome of the game, but also points, fouls, shooting percentage, shot selection, etc.

I was the sole and lead researcher on the final iteration of this project during the 2017-18 season, which was heavily focused on how schedule alert games will affect playoff teams and their star players. My role consisted of analyzing large data sets totaling over 20,000 data points through Stats Cube, advanced excel manipulation, and ESPN’s in-house databases to uncover the most relevant talking points.

The final piece and original graphics were published on ESPN.com, SportsCenter, and ESPN app.
